French Rafale International and European consortium (Germany, Italy, Spain and United Kingdom) Cassidian Eurofighter are invited to witness the opening of their bids on Nov. 4th. Mr Subramaniam Swamy, national president of Janata Party predicts Sonia Gandhi has already chosen French aircraft Rafale.

Mr Subramanian Swamy, national president of Janata Party, wrote a detailed letter with specificity to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, and alleged that the pre-determined decision to favor the French aircraft Rafale over M-MRCA was the outcome of several secret conversations between the wife of French President Ms Caria Bruni and the Chairperson of the National Advisory Council Ms Sonia Gandhi. In addition the secret conversations went on with two foreign nationals who are the sisters of Sonia Gandhi.

Swamy alleges that agreement of the French to pay a hefty bribe for favoring the purchase of French aircraft Rafale is in the card. This is Bofors number 2, say some international think tanks.

The aerospace industry sources said the shortlisted vendors (French Rafale International and European consortium Cassidian Eurofighter) have received a letter from the Indian ministry of defense (MOD) and have been informed of the date on which the commercial bids for procuring 126 fighter jets will be opened.

According Indian ministry of defense, the lowest bid in the request for proposal (tender) may become the winner of the lucrative contract. However, the associated costs of spare parts and support services over the two years, the aircraft maintenance cost over a lifetime of 6,000 hr. of flying or 40 years, will also be considered.

The Defense Ministry of India in early October approved the best and final offers of the two vendors. Surprisingly Eurofighter and Rafale were shortlisted after opening proposal offerings from Lockheed Martin and Boeing, as well as the Russian MiG 35 and Swedish Saab Gripen. All were rejected from the race in April in spite of the fact these rejected planes are of much higher technical strength than the French and the Eurofighter.

According to:

The Eurofighter is ranked number 8 and French Rafale ranked at number 10 in the top ten projected fighter jets in the world as in 2020.

Interestingly, the four-nation European consortium EADS Cassidian has offered New Delhi "full participant" status in its Eurofighter Typhoon program. French are quiet and confident about winning the bid.

Some now believes India at this stage may not have much of a choice other than Eurofighter since Sonia Gandhi is already in focus for Indian corruption saga including the 2G scam. Sonia Gandhi may have decided to give the contract to Eurofighter. But that does not explain why the lucrative offers from Lockheed Martin and Boeing, as well as the Russian MiG 35 and Swedish Saab Gripen were rejected by the Congress led UPA Government of India.
