Nepal in total chaos
Sudhir Chadda
Apr. 9, 2005

Nepal Army is still in control but the country is in flames. The Maoists are openly challenging the Government and the military. People are upset on the King and some on the Maoists too! The international powers are watching closely. The labor unions are in strike and close to 500 protestors are in custody – the anticlimax of democracy uprooted monarchy!

Nepal is in agony while United nation and the Security Council is watching quietly. India is also quiet. China and Pakistan are willing to help the Nepal King with money, arms and what not. But people of Nepal are strong and determined to reclaim their nation from the ruthless monarchy as well as the Maoists.

The Royal Nepalese Army killed at least 50 Maoist rebels on April 8 in response to an overnight mortar attack by insurgents against an army base in Khara, Rukum district. Over 500 protesters have been arrested. An 11-day labor strike instigated by the Maoists is scheduled to end April 12.
