Sudan has appointed private sector businessmen to help manage Sudapet, its state oil firm
Special Correspondent
Feb. 21, 2011

Sudan has appointed private sector businessmen to help manage Sudapet, its state oil firm.

Lual Deng, Sudan's oil minister, said the three businessmen would be working for free alongside four government officials and a Sudapet representative on the eight-member board of directors to guide strategy and improve efficiency. Deng said they wanted Sudapet to run as if it were a private company, adding that the firm was not being privatized. He also said the new management would also attempt to improve oil recovery rates from 23 percent to at least 40 percent.
