The Opposition paralyzed both Houses, pressing for an adjournment motion on the politically sensitive price situation, something the government did not want to yield ground on at all.

As the main Opposition, BJP was unrelenting and its deputy leader Gopinath Munde made it clear that the party would not back down from its demand for an adjournment motion. The BJP worded its proposed motion with care dwelling specifically on rise in the cost of LPG and kerosene. The government argued that a decision to increase prices did not mean a "failure" that necessitated an adjournment motion.

In Lok Sabha, SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav and RJD's Lalu Prasad walked down to the well lending voice to the protests. Leader of Opposition Sushma Swaraj said the government should accept the demand for an adjournment motion keeping in view the plight of the common man after the petro price hike.
