Pope John Paul II will be remembered as some one who respected others religion and culture and requested America not to invade Iraq
Pope John Paul II died at 2137 local time April 2 in Vatican City, the Vatican reported. He was 84. He was man of conviction and justice. People of all religions lost a great humanitarian.
About 1800 years back, the Great King Ashoka of India won Kalinga war. After winning the war he was sad because he saw so many people dead. He understood that war is not what we the humans are supposed to make. He embraced Buddhism and said a very important sentence that has become the benchmark of religious spirituality : “You can respect your religion only by respecting others religion and culture.”
Pope Jon Paul II, in 2003 before the Iraq war requested America not to invade Iraq. Later it was found that America could never find the “Weapons of Mass Destruction” which they claimed was the main reason for the war. Hundreds of thousands of people were killed, made widowed and orphans. And now we know all these were for “mistake in intelligence report!”
But Pope John Paul II understood and recognized what Great King Ashoka understood two thousand years back. While the neo conservative Christians in America went ahead with the attack on Iraq, Pope John Paul II stood firm on his conviction and said clearly “it was wrong to attack Iraq”. He respected others religion and culture. By doing that he showed how great he was.
