America hosts Indian PM Manmohan Singh, Brazil hosts Ahmadi-Nejad, Iran’s leader, in the capital Brasília, what is the significance?

Nov. 22, 2009

While US President Obama is busy hosting Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Brizilian leader Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, hosts Mahmoud Ahmadi-Nejad, Iran’s leader, in the capital Brasília. Is that any singnificant? Or, is that just a coincidence?

Not quite. Let us anlayze.

India and America were never real friends since the assassination of former US president John F. Kennedy. After Johnson and neo cons took over America, they used Pakistan to continually keep India under tension. Pakistan fought two massive wars with American weapons while India defended its position with Soviet made weapons. Since early 1990s, the neo cons of America found India a nice obedient servant in South Asia as Pakistan and its Islamic friends turned hostile to America. Today India wants American smell and touch. Its called “glamor” of the West. India's oligarch Tata wants to fly an F18. Every Indian business dreams of fettching business from US to access the easy dollar without knowing how much gold can a US dollar really fetch these days after Lehman Brothers led global fianncial meltdown! America wants India to be a new “Israel” against China and Pakistan nexus. Indian companies dreams of owning piece of American assets just like the Chinese dream of owning the residue of American corporate failures like Hummer and Lenovo (oops! IBM PCs).

Brazil on the other hand is the real budding economic super power. The sugar in Brazil provides enough energy in the form of ethanol. On top of that Brazil just found an ocean of oil and gas that dwarfs Saudis in the long run. Its technical capabilities parallel China although it is not a nuclear power. The tremble of soccer successes pass through the nerve center of the new econo-technical power structure of the new comer in the superpower block – Brazil. Yes, Brazil has the nerve to host Ahmadi-Nejad, Iran’s leader, in the capital Brasília agaisnt the American wishes.

So why is that all significant? It is perhaps just a coincidence. Something went wrong for India in the last ten years. Something perhaps went right for Brazil!

India was the leader of the NAM – Non Aligned Nations that defied Western Europe and America for decades. Brazil was more aligned to America. But today, India is no longer the leader of NAM. Now it is a satelite nation of the Western powers. Brazil now look at itself as a new emerging true leader. It is no longer an American satelite nation. Perhaps India and Brazil has interchanged their position. India lost its prestige among the non-aligned third world nation trying to seek western glory and nuclear recognition. Brazil on the other hand, wants to create a new image of itself – not only a soccer giant that once followed the shadow of the United States. Today it is a vibrant emerging real super power that can dare provide a warm welcome to the the Iranain President against the desires of America and other NATO countries.
