Pakistan has plans to keep parts of Mullah Omar Taliban intact – cuts deals with Taliban renegades Maulvi Nazir and Hafiz Gul Bahadur
Tania Soloman
Oct. 19, 2009

Pakistan military went ahead with the offensive against the Taliban after ensuring parts of the Taliban will remain intact in South Waziristan.

The deals increase the chances of an army victory against Pakistan's enemy No. 1, but indicate that the 3-day-old assault into the Taliban's strongholds in South Waziristan may have less effect than the U.S. wants on a spreading insurgency across the border in Afghanistan.

Taliban renegades Maulvi Nazir and Hafiz Gul Bahadur will stay out of the current fight in parts of South Waziristan controlled by the Pakistani Taliban. These anti-American warlords will allow Pakistani access to the inner parts of South Waziristan. In exchange Pakistani militia will overlook ease patrols and bombings in the lands controlled by these Talibans and hit the other Talibans. Both these quasi taliban allow their lands to be used by fighters who cross into Afghanistan and are loyal to the Mullah Omar, the head of the Afghan Taliban.
