Is America discriminating against BJP and Modi while overlooking what Congress did in 1984 riots against Sikhs? “Revoke visas of Congress politicians”: Shiromani Akali Dal
The US should revoke visas of Congress politicians accused of involvement in the 1984 riots, using the same approach as it did in Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi's case, the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) said today.
Akali Dal accused congress of instigating the anti-Sikh riots, which, over a period of a few days, ended in the death of around 10,000 Sikhs.
New-Delhi-based Sikh Forum secretary R.P. Singh, "I think Manmohan Singh will understand the agony of those who were affected by the killings. We will look up to him for justice." "If Gujarat can be reopened, why not 1984," he asks, referring to a recent decision by India's Supreme Court to retry people acquitted in Best Bakery case.
International attention has also been drawn to the issue. On April 19, four Members of European Parliament (MEPs) Jean Lambert, Caroline Lucas, Matti Wuori and Alima Boumediene-Thiery launched a Written Declaration in the European Parliament asking for a "Commission of Truth and Justice under the auspices of the UN to comprehensively investigate whether the slaughter to which Indian Sikhs were subjected in 1984 constitutes genocide as defined in the Genocide Convention and the relevant international law."
