BJP finally breaks the ice, sees US hand in Indo-Pak joint statement, is Manmohan Singh a CIA agent?
BJP finally broke the silence. The gossip was prevalent in the streets of New Delhi. The rumor was all there in the news media. The Indo Pak statement was perhaps written by America’s Central Intelligence Agency. Or, perhaps American Government was directly behind the episode forcing India to compromise with Pakistan. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Saturday accused the government of agreeing to the India-Pakistan joint statement under international pressure, especially from the US.
"We see a strong possibility of international pressure, particularly from the US, behind the joint statement, which delinks talks between India and Pakistan from terror and unilaterally mentions Balochistan," BJP president Rajnath Singh told reporters in Bangalore.
The biggest rumor now is not if America forced India to accept such statement but if Dr. Manmohan Singh, India’s non-elected Prime Minister for more than eight years is a mole from the Central Intelligence Agency?
Let us analyze the possibilities step by step.
There is no credible evidence that America influenced the Indo Pak statement. There is no doubt that American interests lie in a friendly India and Pakistan to help turn the tide in Afghanistan over Taliban. But at the same time, no one can find any direct or indirect evidence of American influence in the matter. Moreover, Indian Government under Manmohan Sigh has slowly and steadily moved towards America. But that can be because China and Pakistan have forced India to slide towards America.
Dr. Manmohan Singh is obstinate but a good man. No one knows why he committed the blunder in the Indo Pak joint statement. But that does not say he is part of American intelligence. In many cases he and his Government has opposed America. One such example would be the recent Indian decision on climate change. The other would be India’s stubborn stance in World Trade Organization.
It is unfortunate that Dr. Singh allowed the world to perceive his close secret connection to America. It is sad that people in India now suspects that America hijacked Indian democracy and foreign policy. But the point is that before blaming America point blank, we should calm down and think – what was the alternative? China and Russia have their own interest. India has to move on independently. That may require high-level international diplomacy.
BJP has its right to call any one anything. So can Congress party. But people of India believe in their politicians and their unquestionable patriotism. It is sad that the people’s confidence is shaken. But that does not mean America influenced Indian foreign policy. That does not mean Manmohan Singh is a CIA agent. He may be pro-western leader who believes in a strong India and strong Indo-American relationships.
