Saudi Arabia offers asylum to Musharraf, Nawaz Sharif smiles in Pakistan and says fate is most unpredictable
Balaji Reddy
Aug. 1, 2009

Who could predict two years back that world’s most notorious dictator, a Bush favourite, Pakistani strong man General Musharraf will be running to hide from the Pakistani courts?

Saudi Arabia's Ambassador to Pakistan Abdul Aziz Bin Ibrahim said that his country would consider giving political asylum to Musharraf if he asks for it.

It was former Prime Minister of Pakistan, deposed by dictator Musharraf, Nawaz Sharif who had to run for his life and took asylum in Saudi Arabia. Fate is most unpredictable. Today Sharif is enjoying his political comeback in Pakistan. Musharraf who literally threw Sharif out of Pakistan is running for his life hiding in the narrow alleys of London and hoping for asylum in Saudi Arabia.

It is unclear whether Musharraf would settle in Saudi Arabia after the Supreme Court's decision declaring his November 3, 2007 acts as ''unconstitutional'' and ''extra-judicial''.

Sources say Musharraf loves to stay in Pakistan. But what he did to Nawaz Sharif is biting him back.

Can Pakistan pardon Musharraf? Can the cycle of tit for tat end? Can Saudi Arabia be told they are not so important in Pakistani political matters?
