In an interesting international development, leaders of South America plan to meet with the leaders of Arab Nations (Arab League). There are signs of formation of another power block

The leaders of the 12 states that make up the South American Community of Nations and the heads of the 22 countries that make up the Arab League will hold a first-ever summit May 10th-11th in the Brazilian capital of Brasilia to discuss joint economic, trade and political cooperation. Brazilian Foreign Minister Celso Amorim said on March 27th that the summit would be "a small seismic movement" in the global correlation of political power.

South America is a very cohesive power block and is as a trade block very significant for agriculture exports. The Arab League obviously is important for oil. The two trading blocks can control or attempt to influence world’s need for energy and food.
