Lalgargh battle rages – Indian CRPF and West Bengal Police force fight the Maoists in the treacherous forest of Kasdashole
Anuj Thapa
Jun. 27, 2009

The battle for dominance rages at Kadashole. Indian Central forces (CRPF) on Friday engaged the Maoists in by far the fiercest firefight in the Lalgarh operation, pushing through territory from where Bengal police were beaten back last week and reaching within 6km of Ramgarh, the suspected rebel hub.

The site of Friday’s gun fight was the mouth of the forest in Kadashole, 6miles from the Goaltore base camp from where 11 companies — seven central and four state, totaling 1,200 armed Indian security personnel started moving on.

The security forces captured six miles of territory in the operations to reclaim Lalgarh without knowing where the people are. The common people vanished along with the Naxals ( the Maoists).

Bengal police’s deputy inspector-general (CID), Siddhi Nath Gupta, and the CRPF’s DIG, B.R. Kamath, are leading the platoons that are leading the offensive.

Maoists tactics are similar to the Sunni resistance in Iraq. The security force will be allowed to recapture the regions without much fight. But then the hit and run and IED driven battle will start. The regions is so remote, the state and the central Government will have to devote much more resource to continue the battle. The battle of persistence has started between Indian security forces and the Maoists.
