Indian intelligence found security problems in Modi trip to UK – Home Minster and not PM asked Modi to cancel trip
According sources in New Delhi, "Home Minister Shivraj Patil spoke to Modi and informed him that because his visit to Britain was private, the government there would not provide any official security, so there may be a problem," the prime minister's media advisor Sanjaya Baru told IANS.
"Then Modi called the Prime Minister and informed him of his decision to cancel his visit."
Baru denied any knowledge of direct threat to Modi in UK.
According to international think tanks, this was a good diplomatic way to avoid any further controversy on Modi trip. India was concerned about Modi trip and resulting any further reparations.
Rumor is floating in India that intelligence found some direct threats, PM’s office informed BJP leader Advani and in consultation with Modi the trip was cancelled.
Modi addressed a convention Asian American Hotel Owners'' Association at Fort Lauderdale, Florida via videoconference at 10.30 Am on Friday and soon after that the trip cancellation was announced.
