United States trying collaborate with India and Brazil in areas of defense to ensure regional stability
American foreign policy is designed to cooperate with regional democratic powers to ensure regional stability. India and Brazil are working closely with United States for that purpose. Recent visit of Dr, Rice, US Secretary of State clearly set the tone for the defense collaboration. India now is looking for US Defense research projects outsourced to India.
As India is regarded as a major regional power in Asia and Southeast Asia , Brazil is considered a major regional power in South America.
U.S. Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld plans to visit Brazilian President Luiz Inacio "Lula" da Silva and Brazilian Defense Minister Jose Alencar on March 23 to discuss regional security issues. Defense Ministry officials said on March 21 the main topics on Rumsfeld's agenda are: U.N. operations in Haiti; drug trafficking and the war on terrorism; a law allowing Brazil's government to shoot down drug trafficking aircraft; and Brazil's position on security in South America.
Brazil and India are also part of the BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa) alliance led by Russian President Putin. India and China also have come closer in their bilateral relationships.
