IAEA tends to a unanimous approval of India India-specific nuclear safeguards accord – secretly Indian Government worked with IAEA to get the deal approved
It will be of interest to see what the political observers all along said comes true. Manmohan Singh finally made a food of the communists in India. He and his Congress party was working with the Americans and the IAEA secretly to make the deal quickly approved in July and complete the implementation by early August 2008.
Although the official version of IAEA is that the draft India-specific nuclear safeguards accord is under review by the 35 member board members, in reality it is all approved quite sometime back as the UPA coalition was buying time with the Left parties.
IAEA spokeswoman Melissa Fleming said in a press statement issued at the Agency headquarters in Vienna “…at the request of the Government of India, the IAEA Secretariat on Wednesday circulated to members of the IAEA board of governors for their consideration the draft of an ''Agreement with the Government of India for the Application of Safeguards to Civilian Nuclear Facilities’.”
While officially a special governors meeting will be convened in Vienna on July 28 to discuss the safeguards text, in reality it is all approved in principle. There may be a few dissents just to show it is not faked up at the request of Bush Administration.
