Did Musharraf influence America’s decision in Narendra Modi’s visa refusal? Was it another reward for Pakistan?
According to American authorities, the Naredra Modi’s visa denial and revocation decision were made at the very high level and American Secretary of State Dr. Rice was made aware of all the decisions. The US has said that its decision to revoke visa to Chief Minister Narendra Modi was not based on any US government findings about his responsibility for the Gujarat riots but the conclusions reached by the National Human Rights Commission of India in this regard. US State Department Deputy Spokesman Adam Ereli told reporters that it was inaccurate to say that America have determined that Modi was behind the riots in Gujarat in 2002.
Pakistan a month back made a big noise about not playing cricket in Ahmedabad . When you add all the dots, it seems Musharraf requested Bush Administration to refuse the visa to Narendra Modi and Pakistan was given the carrot. This may be another reward replacing immediate delivery to F16s to Pakistan.
There is no way anyone can prove this theory. But common sense says there is something wrong here. Does America stop all human right abusers from entering America? Then the Chinese leaders, Israeli leaders and many in the world would have never entered America.
Determining who is a human rights abuser is a political game. It is good lesson for BJP and for that matter current Indian Government. Under Indian constitution, Narendra Modi is liable to answer to the nations if there was human rights violation. The problem is how does the West justify butchering of millions of Hindus in Pakistan during and after the India-Pakistan partition. What about killing and terrorizing the Hindu population of Jammu and Kashmir?
What happened in Gujrat is deplorable. What happened in Punjab is also deplorable. What is happening in Kashmir for the last twenty years at the instigation of Pakistan is even more deplorable.
Narendra Modi should not come to a country that does not welcome him for whatever reason. He should not make himself available over satellite either. The American Indians can take the matter within legal jurisdiction in America to whatever level they want.
America has every right to refuse visa to any one the country feels not welcome for whatever reason. But then we must remember – India can do the same too!
