Pakistan challenged to score 422 and win – Eden Garden’s history says India will win with ball spinning and jumping viciously – so does Internet betting!

Mar. 19, 2005

India declared at 407 for 9 and set target of 422 for Pakistan in the final Innings of Pakistan. All eyes are now on Anil Kumble and Harbhajan Singh. In the past Indian spinners have cracked all visiting batting supremacy at the Eden Gardens. Against England and West Indies Chndra Shekhar created the magic. Clive Loyed made a comment after losing a winning test match – he never saw any pitch turn no viciously. At Eden, the ball on the final day, not only spins sharply but its speed and bounce doubles. That makes any leg spinner dangerous to tackle. In the old days Bedi and Chandrashekhar made the visiting stalwarts of England and West Indies crumble.

According to experts, it will be daunting task for Pakistan to tackle Kumble in this pitch. They can only hope not to lose any wicket for along time. The most dangerous thing will be morning dew with vicious spinning balls tacking all over.

According to international betting markets including that on the Internet, India has a 85% chance winning. The fielding will be critical though. The match can turn ugly for India if the catches are dropped and lousy fielding is encountered by the bowlers. There is another wild card and that is Inzy. He plays extremely well when challenged specially against the spinners in the final innings.
