Israel became a nuclear power in 1965: Former Israeli Science Minister - where did they test their nukes?
Former Israeli Science Minister Yuval Neeman formally acknowledged that Israel became a nuclear power 40 years ago. It is well acknowledged by experts that Israel is a nuclear power. But no one really knew they became a nuke power in 1965. That is quite early in the cycle of nuke evolution. In that case the biggest question now is how did they test their nukes?
Today, computer simulation is available and that makes nuke tests unnecessary. That is why many nations who are working on nukes can secretly have nukes without testing the same underground. But in 1965 the computer simulation process was not there. In 1971, India tested her first nuclear device in Pokhran, Rajasthan in the middle worldwide criticism from the Western nations led by United States and Canada. But it is interesting to know that Israel secretly had nukes in 1965 without any problem. It is just not possible that they tested their nukes and no one noticed the same. The Russians – Soviet Union at that time would have made a big noise about that. It is just not possible to hide nuclear tests. This is not something that you can perform in a laboratory.
Then the question really becomes: did they perform the test in a country that was testing nukes regularly at that time? The countries that ware testing nukes at that time were the Russians, Chinese, Americans, French and the British. If that was the case then obviously no one would have noticed. There are also questions now how did Israel enrich its Uranium in 1965 or before? Did they have a plutonium program?
