Gujjars get 5% quota – when will this reverse discrimination end in India?
Ashis Pandey
Jun. 18, 2008

It is an utter shame that Rajasthan Government and the Central Government of India allowed the Gujjars to have 5% quota. This is a bad precedent and will have serious implication in many decades to come.

Addressing a joint press conference with Gujjar leader Kirori Singh Bainsla here, Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje announced five per cent quota for Gujjars as also Rebaris and Banjaras.

Common people in India are tired of reverse discrimination. The middle class students have hard time to get higher desirable education and decent paying jobs. While those who have been deprived from decent living due to the case system should by the Government, the poor and the middle class also need some help.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati, the champion for the scheduled caste and tribes said something that is right. She said all quotas should be abolished. Instead, quota should only be there who are relatively poor.

This move on securing 5% for Gujjars just because Meena community has the same will backfire badly in India. Gujjars have showed all Indians what to do to get new quotas. India will face severe agitations and political unrest as communities want quotas, separate state, special recognition and so on.
