Indian foreign minister Pranab Mukherjee confused about pan-Asian grouping – China wonders ‘what does he mean?’

A pan-Asian grouping for an enhanced security structure is what Indian Foreign Minister pitched for. It ran out of ideas and confused Chinese looked at each other.

"We will need to evolve a security architecture which takes into account the conditions prevailing in Asia. …an open and inclusive architecture …Nor should we seek to create such sub-regional security arrangements that are narrow and ultimately ineffective," Mukherjee told his audience at the Beijing university.

The Chinese audience looked at each other thinking that that the Indian minister is confused himself.

Did he mean a NATO like security arrangement within the ASEAN unity framework? Did he mean a Russia-China-India framework to oppose NATO? What is pan-Asian grouping? Is it pro or anti-US?

The Chinese politicians are eager to find the mind of the Indian leaders. But they know these Indian politicians will lose the next election – so why bother other than creating some tension on Sikkim.

India meanwhile refused any talk on its newest state Sikkim.
