A last try before the death of India-US nuke agreement – PM Manmohan calls all party meet
Hari Munshi
May 27, 2008

Indian PM Manmohan Singh knows very well that Hyde Act based India-US 123 nuke agreement’s death is no longer a subject to hide. All parties know that it is stagnated. Bush Administration wants a fast implementation. The Left parties in India and BJP oppose the agreement with US.

PM wants to make a last-ditch effort to salvage the deal. India has always honored its international agreements. That may be the reason why India is not eager to finally make the agreement a reality.

The problem, as the government itself is aware of, is not that the Left is preventing it from going ahead, it’s that the government is itself not fully convinced — except the Prime Minister, whose personal vision has largely been responsible for the deal.
