Japan developing concrete for lunar base scheduled for 2050
Medha Pushkar
Apr. 25, 2008

Japan has actively joined India and China in running to capture and establish a lunar base. In Japan, the head of a space project team at major contractor Shimizu Corp. is enthusiastic about developing technology to make concrete on the moon that could be used to build a lunar base. The project is being funded by JAXA. Rapid progress made by China and India in space has acted as a spur to Japanese researchers. So far a lunar base is scheduled for 2050, but that will depend largely on the intentions of the United States, which accounts for 80 percent of all money spent on space research.
