Iran accuses US for deterring foreign investment in Iran while Syria wants America to integrate Hezbollah into Lebanese Army and jointly manage Iraqi border against insurgents
In a strange development Syria’s ambassador to US Imad Moustapha said Hezbollah is a grass-root movement in Lebanon and is real popular. He continued to say, the Hezbollah's armed wing could become integrated into the Lebanese army with the help of Bush Administration. Syria also proposed that they are ready to join hands with US troops to secure the Iraq Syria borders from Iraqi insurgents if that is an issue.
In the mean time Iran accused America of negative propaganda to deter foreign investment in Iran by sanctioning the country and portraying its markets as unsafe. According to Iranian sources the Foreign Direct Investment in Iran is real good at this time. Iranian Foreign Minister Kamal Kharrazi said Oil investments since 2003 are valued at $10 billion and foreigners invested an additional $5 billion in other sectors during the same period.
It seems American positions are very clear. Iran must abandon the nuke ambition. Syria must stop flexing power in the region. The possibilities of an Iraq style war in these countries are remote. But for the sake of the people of Syria and Iran, it is important that these countries understand the American positions and comply as soon as possible. While national pride is an important issue, Iran and Syria need to understand America’s concern – the terrorism. Even if Iranian and Syrian leadership has a different notion, diplomacy must take precedence over anything else.
