Will India stand up against America on slave-like treatment and human trafficking abuse on Indian workers at a Mississippi shipyard?
India will fight for workers'' safety, security and dignity, Indian ambassador to US Ronen Sen told workers who reached the Indian embassy carrying placards and shouting slogans after their 1,500-km "journey for justice" that began in New Orleans on March 18.
But this Indian ambassador is in the pockets of American oligarchs who abused the Indian workers violating human rights. Sen, a few months back accused Indian politicians for not signing the nuke deal that ‘Hyde’ the facts. People question Ronen Sens’s honesty and integrity. American companies like GE and Westinghouse will earn $100 billion in revenues from India-US nuke deal. How much will Ronen get? How much will Sonia Gandhi get? How much will PM Manmohan Singh pocket?
Sen met the abused workers from India who were treated like slaves and tried to pacify them with lollypop ‘words’.
In the mean time, "Both Signal and our employees were misled. We are going to stand by our workers and do what we can to help them get justice. The recruiters'' abuses cannot be tolerated," Signal International President and CEO Richard Marler said.
Signal will also pursue claims against Global Resources, its principal Michael Pol, other recruiters, and immigration attorney Malvern Burnett for charging the temporary workers excessive fees and making false promises about the green card process," a company statement said.
But that does not mean much. Signal knew it was recruiting cheap slave labor from India. They just followed what other American companies are doing. It is the mindset of ‘using others who are less fortunate’ that has to change.
A pertinent question will be what was the political contribution to Bush-Cheney campaign and Republican political apparatus by CEO Richard Marler and Signal Corporation? How much did Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal receive for his campaign from Signal Corporation?
