Nadia Solkar
Mar. 14, 2008

It is a massive uprising that China plans to suppress with guns. Scores of people have been killed in rioting between Tibetans and Chinese security forces in the regional capital Lhasa. Chinese troops armed to the teeth are using both live ammunition and tear gas. They are firing on the crowds torching vehicles and Chinese-owned shops in the center of the ancient city.

Numerous dead bodies are lying on the ground in the Barkor area, a shopping district where the protests started. The uprise is spreading very fast all over Tibet.

More than 500 monks had been arrested and tanks were patrolling the square near the Potala Palace inclding the architectural wonders of the world, the one-time winter residence of Tibet's spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama.
