UN independent investigation team finds Syrian and possibly Lebanese military intelligence connection to assassination of former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafik al-Hariri
Staff Reporter
Mar. 15, 2005

Who really killed former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafik al-Hariri? The answer is critical for world peace. A U.N. independent investigation team has found the most probable answer to the mystery.

The U.N. independent investigation team said on March 14th that it has found evidence of a possible cover-up of the assassination of former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafik al-Hariri. Syrian and possibly Lebanese military intelligence officers might have been involved. After questioning Gen. Rustum Ghazale, senior Syrian army intelligence officer in Lebanon, and examining the evidence, they believe that many of the destroyed vehicles were removed within hours of the explosion -- before investigators could examine them. Investigators also said they believe the blast was caused by explosives buried under the pavement, rather than by a car bomb.

There are also indications that Lebanese authorities tried to cover up and misguide investigation into another direction. In other words they tried to obstruct justice.
