Finance Minister P Chidambaram announced a hike in short-term capital gains tax to 15 per cent. This is a severe blow to the weak Indian stock market. The market players are worried about the future prospects of the Sensex.
The analytical models point to the fact that tax increase will severely effect Sensex performance. The stock market crashed within minutes of the announcement.
