Maoists in Orissa a major problem for India – the violence and counter violence continues
Anil Rane
Feb. 17, 2008

During combing operation in the border areas of Nayagarh, Ganjam and Kandhamal districts, the Indian security officials claim that a large number of armed Maoists were gunned down.
On the last Friday night, 15 people including 14 police personnel were killed by the Maoists. The authorities went after the Maoists in revenge to that attack.
Local say innocent people are also killed in the combing operations. The Maoists operate by mingling among common people. Common people sympathize with the Maoists. It is difficult to figure out the true hard core militant ultra Maoists.
Maoists in Orissa and other states are major problems for India. PM Manmohan Singh is leading a security campaign against these Maoists who are also called Naxals in India. The Maoists believe in killing the rich and powerful to free common people. But in turn they kill police officers who are nothing but some common people service holders.
