Microsoft’s hostile take over intent similar to that of AT&T’s over NCR in the late eighties – a mistake Microsoft will repent for ever
Kirsten McLauren
Feb. 12, 2008

These kinds of strategic mistakes are what take big companies down. In the late eighties NCR corporation was taken over by AT&T in a hostile take over battle. AT&T paid through the roof. AT&T got NCR corp under its banner, tried to configure NCR to AT&T’s style of operation. Two years later when AT&T realized what a blunder it had committed, it sold NCR out with a big loss.

It seems Bill gates and his company is about repeat the same mistake. Their hostile take over of Yahoo is possible. But the price tag will be way higher. More importantly, Microsoft will soon find it cannot do much with the giant portal company.

The net gainer in all these is Google. Most likely, after a few years, Microsoft will sell Yahoo to Google at a much lower price.

Microsoft says Yahoo's rejection of its multibillion dollar buyout offer is ``unfortunate,'''' and that moving forward on a deal is in both companies'' best interest.

Microsoft Corp. said Yahoo's response Monday ``does not change our belief in the strategic and financial merits of our proposal.''''
