US and UK are convinced that it is to their benefit to keep the puppet Musharraf in control of a country that failed as a state. They feel he is the right person to keep those nukes under control.

However, the progressive and humane part of the Western world, the European Union (EU) is not budging on that ground. According to EU, there would be implications for President Musharraf if the only major international election monitoring mission to the country cries foul about the crucial February 18 national and provincial assembly elections.

Robert Evans, Member of the European Parliament (MEP), who is leading a team of more than 170 observers to Pakistan, admitted to TOI that "the eyes of the world will be upon us (the EU EOM)."

EU plans to hold Mushrraf personally responsible for the rigging in the election. “He has to behave like a civilized person before any sensible election can take place in Pakistan” says an unnamed EU official.
