Kolkata hit with bird flu – the human tragedy can be immense – who to blame?
Sudhir chadda
Jan. 27, 2008

The officials are denying the rumors of the first human case of bird flu in Kolkata. But people in Kolkata know very well the epidemic is here. Chickens and chicken eggs come to Kolkata, India’s largest population center from the surrounding districts. Bird flu has spread to 13 out of the 19 districs in West Bengal. The communist controlled state government says it is fully prepared to face any kind of adversity if any human beings are afflicted by the dreaded disease.

But the healthcare infrastructure is just inadequate to stop the epidemic. This was the worst nightmare for every Kolkata resident. The poor water, sewer, and healthcare infrastructure is ideal for bird flu to affect human being in large scale and create the world epidemic.

The blame goes to the Marxists leaders in the district who opposed culling the birds to protect the revenue of their followers. The after effect is severe and ignorant communists know little.

Kolkata is overcrowded with worst sewage control facilities. The drinking water is contaminated with sewage in many ways. The hospitals and clinics are overcrowded like nowhere in the world. The doctors in this city freely prescribe steroids to patients to get rid of nagging patients that keep complaining about their body. Kolkata is the time bomb waiting to happen in the bird flu spread within human species. The healthcare officials including the city politicians are totally unaware of what can happen to this most densely populated city in the world once human epidemic spreads from bird flu.
