Indian tail shows Aussies the essence of batting – Kumble missed century by a few runs
Ajit Parker
Jan. 25, 2008

The tail end of Indian batting finally performed with vengeance. The serious trend that was set by Sachin Tendulkar is now a big total for Aussies to chase around. Kumble (87) led a remarkable rearguard fight back to take the total beyond the 500-run mark. The skipper of the Indian team put up 107 runs for the eighth wicket with Harbhajan Singh (63) and then teamed up with young Ishant Sharma to add 58 more runs for the last wicket.

Aussies now face a daunting 526 in the fourth and final cricket Test in Adelaide. Matthew Hayden (36) and Phil Jacques (21) fought back to chase the daunting Indian total. It is a batting pitch and Indian bowlers are on the focus.

Kumble batted for 260 minutes and faced 205 balls, hitting nine fours. Harbhajan batted for 136 minutes for his 63 runs and hit seven fours from 103 balls. He made some interesting guestures after completing his second half century.
