McCain wrong on retraining displaced workers in incompetent community colleges – Senator please be informed before promising unrealistic stuffs to people
John Abelson
Jan. 15, 2008

It is very easy to say ‘we will convert every manufacturing technician into software technician.’ Senator McCain it just does not work. You have lost Michigan because you said something that people of Michigan learnt over the last eight years.
The problem of Michigan started in eighties under Reagan administrator. America in the name of globalization and easy money for rich American traders, embraced countries of low cost labor and aggressive consumer marketing like China and Japan.
It is not possible to convert a manufacturing technician at the age of forty into a software technician or programmer. The community colleges themselves are plagued with incompetent professors who do not retrain themselves after getting their ‘tenure’. These professors are hundreds of miles away from what the industry needs. The community colleges are the worst places to go for retraining.
Senator McCain now tells the people of South Carolina that lost jobs from cotton mills that are being exported to China is of no worry. All these cotton workers can be retrained into ‘something’ in the modern era of globalization.
Senator you are wrong on illegal immigration. You are again wrong on worker retraining programs. Before sending displaced workers to incompetent community colleges, think what you are doing. The fact is you cannot create miracle so easily.
