Iran refuses US offer and claims EU does not want Iran to completely stop Uranium enrichment – diplomatic blunder?

Iran has refused US offer of economic incentives in exchange of stopping all Uranium enrichment.

Iran rejected the U.S. offer to provide economic incentives in exchange for Tehran's full cessation of its nuclear enrichment program. Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Hamid Reza Asefi said March 12 that Iran will not give up its "legitimate right" to pursue a peaceful nuclear power program in return for "bribes" or because of pressure from other countries.

The EU-3 -- the United Kingdom, France and Germany -- is not insisting that Iran completely give up its uranium enrichment program, senior Iranian negotiator Sirus Naseri said. Naseri, who met with European representatives in Geneva recently, said that the EU-3 wants Tehran to offer guarantees that its nuclear program is peaceful. Naseri also said Iran and the EU-3 could potentially negotiate over "the extent and level" of nuclear enrichment that Tehran would be able to pursue.

Iran may be creating a diplomatic blunder. Even if they have no intension of buiding and using nukes, their statements are making Bush Administration suspicious and concerned. Saddam Hussain did the same mistake. Though he had no Weapons of mass Destruction, he created a worldwide perception that he is hiding the same all the time.

Even if Iranians have a few nukes, they can never really use the same effectively because of the lack of appropriate delivery system. Technologies already exist by which such a missile carrying nuke can be neutralized in the air. The biggest concern for US, India, Israel and Russia is the fact these low tech nukes can fall in the hands of Islamic terrorists. Though Russians are convinced that they can monitor Iranians so that these nuke never slip into terror cells, the rest of the world is not that sure.

For that matter US cannot allow Iran to have nukes. It is a perception and reality issue. Iranians will slowly understand that a few half-hearted nukes cannot take them too far. They should instead focus on economic successes. If they really want to prove something to the world, they need to focus on technological innovations and implementations other than nukes.

Once they achieve superior technical capabilities, they will much more respect in the world. At that point of time they may look into nuclear options if needed at all.

At this point of time they are just creating total diplomatic blunder by creating a stubborn attitude that will cause problem for all.
