Tata’s $2700 car low on safety worst on environment – India heads towards disaster
Sonia Joshi
Jan. 9, 2008

Every native Indian dreams of American dream. It is hope of living a better standard of living. But a better standard of living does not come with just having ‘substandard’ things that American way of life takes it for granted.

In reality, substasndard products and the associated pollution lowers the standard of life. Tak ethe example of Tata’s well advertised $2700 car. Soon other car manufacturers will lower their price to match Tata’s and they will also lower the quality to keep the profit margin intact.

Indian roads are already jammed. The infrastructure is missing where you can drive any car at ease. In major Indian cities it is a nightmare to drive in office hours.

Indian environmentalists have started to foresee the worsening of pollution levels in future. The damage to environment and public health comes from many directions. First, the emission standards are sub par. That is the root cause of major diseases in Indian cities. Second, the recycling standard in India is not well regulated by the Government. Third, the lower quality cars increase fatality of the passengers. Fourth, the lower quality material in cheap Indian cars are not recyclable.

The $2700 car from Tata is a dream for Indians. But it comes with false American dream that can push India towards environmental catastrophe.
