It was the worst defeat of Sonia Gandhi. The Congress party is stunned with its defeat. The spin did not work. The lies backfired. People in Gujarat showed the door to Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi.

The most controversial man in Indian politics stuck to his guns even when droves of his party colleagues turned against him, and he was run down by RSS and VHP leaders, besides the Congress and political activists. Yes, Modi told the world especially America – India is Hindutva, take it or leave it.

India’s next probable Prime Minister L K Advani said that a win for Narendra Modi in the Gujarat elections was something like Indira Gandhi’s triumph in 1971. The landslide is real. But what should stun all political think tanks in the world is how Sonia Gandhi’s newly adopted US Republican party style spin and dirty politics did not work in India.

Modi once told an interviewer that he would never be able to get rid of Godhra taint. There are many who will not allow him to forget the riots, but he also has an opportunity to recast himself in a more accommodative mould after the mandate. He will try and bring Hindus and Muslims together. He will show – he is not the agent of death – he is agent Indian Hindutva and indigenous prosperity where people of all religions can live without being slaves of the western civilization.
