This email terror may be a hoax by some call center operators but a real catastrophe is waiting to happen in Indian airports
Air port security is less than adequate in India. An e-mail threatening to blow up the airports on Jan 12 has been received at a call center of Air India in Gurgaon. This one turns out to be hoax from some of the call center operators who understands the sensitive wings of Air India. But a real threat looms.
Indian Airports are guarded by little educated ‘Habildars’ who are good at harassing genuine travelers but not so good is profiling the terrorists. These less educated security personnel guard Indian airports with little knowledge what kind of trouble may lie ahead.
When I tried to board Continental Airlines from Delhi with valid ticket, the less educated Habildar will not let me in. His point was it is too early to board the flight. I was barely three hours ahead of flight departure time. At the same time I found people entering the Airports easily without any questions with political connections. A falsified letter worked better than genuine tickets.
India should deploy elite educated forces at the airport especially where international travelers board or disembark in great numbers. Delhi International Airport is most vulnerable. There are no decent waiting space outside (everything is under construction) and the ‘Habildar’ does not allow you enter the terminal.
The Islamic terror groups are eying to infiltrate the Indian Airports and blow them up for a long time. The Indian security apparatus must get serious to handle this threat.
