An anatomy of Gujarat election – a third landslide victory for BJP and Modi but some gain for Congress as ‘negative misleading’ campaigns work in India

What worked in American politics since 1980 has failed to work in India. Sonia Gandhi and her congress party took the path of the Republican party in the US. Negative misleading and brainwash of common people did not work in India. The Gujarat exit polls say one thing clearly – a lesson for Sonia Gandhi’s dirty politics – what works in America fails to work in India.

The exit polls show clear victory for BJP and the power for the charismatic controversial Hindu hardliner Modi. Associating Modi with western ‘Bikini girls’ and calling him the agents of death did not work in Gujarat. Indian population are less educated but more wise in understanding spins and scare tactics than the Americans. Sonia Gandhi and Manmohan Singh took the dark roads of republicans so that they win in the election. Congress party’s campaign was based on targeting Modi with all sorts ‘less than truth’ allegations. But it did not work. People of Gujarat rejected Sonia Gandhis’s lies again.

But a dangerous sign will emanate from this negative campaign of the congress party. The Congress will win 65 to 70 seats improving its score of 50 or so from the previous election. Polarization of Islamic votes, playing ‘caste’ politics and outright negative campaigns are similar to what the Republicans in America did for many years. They have talk show radio hosts spinning and brainwashing common people all the time. The right wind folks in America have even news and TV channels backed by international billionaires. They scare the white voters against the minorities. They falsify facts to win elections. Manmohan Singh and Sonia Gandhi took the same path. The ads in newspapers are just the start. The trend of this group of politicians is clear – ‘snatch power by hook or crook.’

BJP will retain power in Gujarat with close 100 seats in the Assembly. Sonia Gandhi will declare a win as Congress gains some seats. In the end, India is the winner and loser because Sonia Gandhis’s negative campaign fails to topple the man they targeted but it worked the American Republican style somewhat.
