Congress party faces total rout in Gujarat - they are scrambling to the last resort of inciting communal riots - Sonia Gandhi faces notice from election commission
Kiran Chaube
Dec. 9, 2007

The congress party faces a total route in Gujarat. They are making sure they get every Muslim vote by calling Hindus terrorists. It is the last resort of third kind in South Asian politics. When you spend all your political fuel and then find you are getting routed, you bring in comments that can cause a massive riot between Hindus and Muslims. The Republican party in America does the same against black candidates. When a black candidate starts gaining in poll, the Republicans put ads in TV showing all kinds of stupid stuff against the black candidate.

What Sonia Gandhi is doing in Gujarat is similar to what the Republican Party did against Harold Ford in Tennessee in the 2006 election. The black candidate Mr. Ford was about stage an upset against the incumbent Republican. The Republicans put ads based on total absurd stupidity including scenarios where prostitutes were calling Mr. Ford. The ad can still be seen in YouTube and has become the benchmark of nasty politics in America. Please visit http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kkiz1_d1GsA and watch it yourself. Interestingly, it worked in America. Mr. Ford was defeated in a narrow margin. But India is no America. It will not work in India. People in India cannot be brainwashed by false statement and intimidating attitudes.

Sonia Gandhi’s name calling and inciting the Islamic population is similar to what she has learnt from the western world. She is just doing what the Republicans in America champion – abusive politics. Election Commission on Sunday issued a notice to Congress President Sonia Gandhi on her "merchants of death" remarks in relation to Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi even as it deferred a decision on his response to its notice.
