Sunil Poddar
Dec. 8, 2007

India on Friday rejected Pakistan's proposal to reduce its troop strength in Jammu and Kashmir citing continuing violence, and in turn sought cooperation from Islamabad to stamp out militancy in the state.

India is ready to talk peace but not at the cost of allowing terrorists dominate the valley again. External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee told reporters that India and Pakistan is coming closer to better understandings. But he also mentioned about India’s resolute stand to bring down terrorism in Kashmir. External Affairs Minister further said that because of certain circumstances in that country, ''''normal work'''' could not be completed. However, bilateral trade had increased and a joint survey of Sir Creek had been completed. ''''We will have to wait till the formation of the new government (in Pakistan),'''' the External Affairs Minister said.
