Benazir sounding like Hilary Clinton gets little response from Pashtuns in militant heartland – people wonder who she represents?
She wants the Pashtun votes. She sounds very much like Hilary Clinton. People have heard those before. Politicians with big money and power have come and tried to brainwash people to gain some votes before.
Pakistan's former prime minister Benazir Bhutto took her election campaign to the power base of Islamist groups on Saturday, urging Pashtuns living on the Afghan border to vote for her.
"I have come here to seek your help and cooperation to turn this land of Pashtuns into a cradle of peace," she said while addressing around 2,000 party activists in Peshawar, the capital of North West Frontier Province that borders Afghanistan.
"I appeal to you not to fall into the trap of those who believe in violence ... Reject those who want to form the government at gunpoint." She says boldly.
People in this region have supported the Al-Queda. That is not because they hate the Americans but because they hate the mainland Pakistan controlled by Punjabis and others. Mainstream Pakistanis understands little about the agony of the Pashtuns. They do not like Musharraf.
Benazir Bhutto went to this area to get the support of these people and bring them into mainstream Pakistan. But she never answered anything direct. She was vague. She tried to rally people against Musharraf. People are no fool. Only 2000 came to her speech and they were mainly her activists. Like Hillary Clinton in America she is well supported by big money and big powers.
People ask what can she do for the Pashtuns? What different will she be than Musharraf? After all she supports big money and big power just like Hillary Clinton in US.
