A sense of discrimination and a sense of negation of cultural, linguistic and human rights are the root cause of Sri Lanka civil war: Chidambaram
Raju Ranganathan
Nov. 11, 2007

India’s finance minister Chidambaram has called for a negotiated settlement of the Lanka civil war. He says "India is committed to the unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Sri Lanka. India has made this clear on every occasion. At the same time, India has emphasized that the ethnic conflict in Sri Lanka -- arising out of a sense of discrimination and a sense of negation of cultural, linguistic and human rights -- should be resolved through a negotiated political settlement that includes a credible devolution of powers." The Indian finance minister came out for a strong economically prosperous Sri Lanka. But he emphasized peace through negotiation and understanding between LTTE and Sri Lankan Government. The power sharing is the key issue where no one feels discriminated.
