The first silent signal from Bush Administration on conciliatory approach to Russia
United States provided the first signal today that it like to treat Russia as an ally and not an adversary. This may be the first direct effect of a warm up consequence of the summit between Bush and Putin last month.
The United States supports the continued stationing of the Russian Black Sea fleet at the Ukrainian port of Sevastopol, U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Europe and Eurasia John Tefft said, according to a March 9 report by RIA Novosti. Tefft called the Russian fleet an "important element of regional security," adding that the United States supports continued cooperation between Russia and Ukraine for the duration of Russia's lease on the base, which expires in 2017.
This may indicate the American and Russians will cooperate and work together to solve problems of the world. Russia wants to make sure America does not try to control situations within area of Russia’s influence.
America understands that antagonizing Russians will push them towards an alliance with China.
The new diplomatic signal from America is very strategic and can unleash an era of American-Russian cooperation, which is so important for all of us in the world.
