India failed to beat Australia because of Indian middle order collapse
Ajit Parker
Oct. 14, 2007

Australia defeated India by 18 runs in the sixth one-day international here on Sunday and won the Future Cup series 4-1. The turning point of the match was when Indian middle order batsmen collapsed between 33rd and 41st overs. Tendulkar's stumped off Hopes, and lost the wickets of Ganguly, pinch-hitter Irfan Pathan (29), the out-of-form Rahul Dravid (7) and Yuvraj Singh (6) between the 33rd and 41st overs was the end of all hopes.

Robin Utthapa gave a valiant fight but the departure of Dhoni in 49th over signaled all was over. Australia made 317 for eight in 50 overs. In reply, India could score only 299 for seven in 50 overs. It was a valiant fight and the run gaps show how close this two world leaders in cricket are.
