Chief selector Dilip Vengsarkar goes hard on senior players but the problem may be somewhere else
Sushma Tsao
Oct. 6, 2007

Dilip Vengsarkar wants action. He is eager to replace the senior non-performing players with fresh blood. But the problem may be somewhere else.

India lacks determined strategy. In a limited 20 over match you do not need strategy. That is why a young Indian team excelled. In a 50 over limited match (ODI) or a test match strategy is more important that individual performances.

What is needed is a captain like Kapil Dev. Minimally, India needs Kapil as the coach. Dhoni-Kapil combination can be deadly for ant side to face.

India can replace experienced non-performing players with younger budding players, effect will be actually worse. These young players cannot just create miracle.

Winning Twenty20 is different than winning actual world cup. India lacks strategy. Ganguly was the last hope for India. The Dravid-Chappell conspiracy killed that hope. India now sees a strategist. That may not be the skipper. That can be the coach.
