Russians kill Chechen Supreme Commander Aslan Maskhadov no sign of diminished Chechen militancy!
Russians have killed Chechen Supreme Commander Aslan Maskhadov. But Chechens have reaffirmed their continuance of militancy and adequate revenge. Russian special operations forces found Aslan Maskhadov hiding in a bunker in Tolstoy-Yurt. Shabalkin.
The information about Maskhadov's death was received from the official spokesman for the Russian Regional Headquarters to control the counter-terrorist operation in the Northern Caucasus, Gen. Ilya Shabalkin.
"I can confirm that Maskhadov has been killed in the Chechen settlement of Tolstoy-Yurt. An armed clash took place in the settlement. Maskhadov was hiding in a bunker underneath one of the houses in the settlement," Interfax quoted Ilya Shabalkin as saying.
Russian federal forces have been conducting a special operation in Chechnya's Vedeno and Nozhai-Yurt districts for the recent two days. They captured some insurgents who confessed terrorist plots and where about of their leader Aslan Maskhadov.
At that point, the command of the federal forces ordered to set up a joint detachment of FSB, Interior Ministry and Defense Ministry's military men. The detachment was sent to the settlement of Tolstoi-Yurt," General Shabalkin said.
This may be a short moment of jubilation for the Putin Administration. The Chechens came out with statement that the struggle will continue and a new leader will be chosen.
This may also trigger more horrific terrorism acts in the future.
