The battle for satellite navigation systems heats up – Europe’s Galileo takes on US’s global positioning system (GPS)

Sep. 23, 2007
What happens when the world faces major wars? on US’s global positioning system (GPS) controls the 98% of the satellite navigation systems market. But it can shut down during a war. The all civilian Galileo is ready to take on the American dominance in the space based navigation. It is the ‘future eyes’ of our civilization.
European Union announced the re-launch of its planned rival to the US’s global positioning system. But Washington made a stunning declaration that it would make its own system more user-friendly.
The competition is good. It will just make it cheaper and more effective. Galileo is ready to take on GPS. The effect is already clear. The Americans are ready to make changes. Galileo needs better support from EU member countries. Otherwise it will have to deal with another Bill Gate’s Windows fiasco.
A strange new set of partners is emerging for Galileo. India, China and Russia are talking positively about Galileo. These countries do not trust the GPS systems wholeheartedly. Brazil is also secretly looking forward to Galileo.
