Scientists understand that the event horizon in a black hole must be of positive Yamabe type, meaning that it must admit a metric of positive scalar curvature. In Riemannian geometry, the scalar curvature (or Ricci scalar) is the simplest curvature invariant of a Riemannian manifold. To each point on a Riemannian manifold, it assigns a single real number determined by the intrinsic geometry of the manifold near that point.

In two dimensions the scalar curvature completely characterizes the curvature of a Riemannian manifold. In dimensions ¡Ý 3, however, more information is needed.

The topology of the event horizon of a black hole is spherical in 3D but a ring in higher dimension. This is the reason why extraterrestrial UFOs propagating higher dimensions have easier time to travel. Simply put the space-time curvature can be easily manipulated once you accept the fact that the event horizon is like a ring and not necessarily spherical.
