UPA ready to provide carrot and sticks to the Indian communists to make them agree on the India-US nuke agreement

Aug. 26, 2007
A crucial meeting of the UPA and Left parties is likely to be held on Monday in a bid to find common ground over the objections of the coalition's outside supporters to the Indo-US nuclear deal, ahead of a debate on the issue in Parliament.
Analysts believe, India’s super PM Sonia Gandhi will tell the communists through the UPA reps that the left must agree. If they do not, then their personal corruption files will be made public. If they do agree then there is a lot of carrots instead of sticks.
The communist are baffled. Their ‘Guru’ Chinese politburo tells them to scrap the deal. But Sonia’s corruption files on them force them to surrender. At the same time UPA may allow them to increase their influence in India especially in the religious minority communities if the communists agree to surrender under Sonia’s threats.
There is a reason why Indian Ambassador to US called the Indian communists ‘headless chicken’. Tomorrow’s meeting between UPA and the left parties will show that these chickens have really lost their heads under Sonia’s knife.
Some think tanks believe, the chickens of India’s left will fight hard and stall the agreement for now. PM Manmohan Singh has secretly made his office stall all activities on the nuke agreement. In that case the chickens of the left may still be looking around with their heads intact.
