Russia and America will confront each other in UN Security Council over Syrian plan to withdraw troops from Lebanon
Russia and America disagree over a plan of troops withdrawal of Syria from Lebanon.
Russia is satisfied with a Syrian plan to withdraw troops from Lebanon, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said, after meeting with Syrian Deputy Foreign Minister Walid al-Muallim on March 4. Lavrov said the plan will be announced "soon" and corresponds with U.N. Resolution 1559.
All Syrian personnel must be out of Lebanon by May in order to allow for fair elections, U.S. President George W. Bush said as reported by the New York Post.
Syria will soon release a plan supported by Beirut for withdrawing troops from Lebanon, Syrian Deputy Foreign Minister Walid al-Muallim said after meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov. Al-Muallim said the plan will be submitted for U.N. Security Council approval.
The UN Security Council will again become a hot forum for confrontation between America and Russia. Most likely the Britain and France will join the Americans this time to push Syrians out of Lebanon as soon a s possible. China is planning to support the Russians passively. Sino-Russian close relationship will dominate the cooperation between Russia and China in this matter.
